General nursing career relates to diploma nursing education consisting of Auxiliary Nursing & Midwifery and General Nursing & Midwifery. It is a Certificate level degree in Nursing Category. A student applies for an undergraduate Nursing degree after Diploma Nursing Education. ANM nursing is a diploma course of 2 years duration. Basically, ANM course is taken up in India by grass-root level female health workers. The course aims to train the students to work in rural healthcare setup with major focus on women, children and old people. ANM nursing students can work in the community healthcare setting both in rural as well as urban sector. While on the other hand, General Nursing and Midwifery is a course studied under the certified diploma degree. This course is taught for three years with an additional six months of internship.
