Overview
Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology is named after Mr. Rafi Ahmed Kidwai, the then Governor of Bombay, who donated 20 acres of land situated at Hosur Road, now called as Dr. M. H. Marigowda Road, Bangalore. This institution was established in 26th June, 1973 with bed strength of 50. Kidwai Is an autonomous institute since 8th Jan, 1980 and the government India declared it the Regional Cancer Center in 1st Nov, 1980 which made it one of the 11 Regional Centers in the country. The Indian Council of Medical Research has recognized this Institution as a research association. Since, 1980 to 2001, Kidwai has changed its face of the non-descript cancer hospital to a well-known major and a model comprehensive regional center for cancer research and treatment. This institution has been offering sophisticated diagnostic and treatment services to ever increasing numbers of cancer affected patients from Karnataka and adjoining arear of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra. It is parallel to Tata Memorial Center in terms of the organization itself and other things like; accommodation, equipment, staff and patient turnover.
This institution offers Master of Cardiology, Doctor of Medicine in Medical Oncology, Post-graduate diploma in Nuclear Medicine, Diploma in Radiation physics and Bachelor of Science in (Laboratory/Radiotherapy/Radio diagnosis). This institution also has initiated a program of Professional education, technology and expertise transfer through short-term education/training program for undergraduate, postgraduate and staff of medical colleges/district hospitals and Primary Health Centers. The prime detachment of this training would be to train the medical students and staffs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in early stage. Variety of teaching and learning techniques are employed to impart knowledge and skills to the students at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology.

- Manual intracavitary and interstitial implantation procedure.
- Systemic therapy with standard dose and high dose chemotherapy.
- Blood transfusion and immunohematology services with facilities for blood and blood component therapy.
- Palliative care: primary symptom care with multidisciplinary team.
This Institute also have other laboratory services like; Microbiology, Biochemistry Laboratory and this institution has also involved Pathology Laboratory since 1992. With a bed strength of 429 this institution is among the best medical institution in Bangalore. This institution has been providing accommodation to about 250 ambulatory cancer patients along with about 250 of their attendants.

Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Technology is an undergraduate Medical Laboratory Technology program which aims to provide with the aspiration of sufficient knowledge and skills to carry out routine laboratory and some sophisticated laboratory diagnostic procedures. This course deals with the advanced management in laboratory equipment and other instrumentation. MSc in Medical Laboratory Technology is a post-graduate course which is the branch of all the medical science responsible for performing laboratory investigations relating to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases.
