Sri Devaraj Urs College of Nursing aims to become an "Institution of Excellence" in the field of Nursing Education, Administration and Service with continual improvement of the system. Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust established Nursing College in 1998. Situated in Tamaka, at distance of 6 kms to the eastern part of Kolar, on Bangalore-Chennai Highway-NH4, well connected by road, rail and air. College offers Nursing diploma (GNM), B.Sc. Nursing, Post B.Sc. Nursing and M.Sc. Nursing courses.
College of Nursing is approved by Govt. of Karnataka and recognized by Karnataka State Nursing Council as well as Indian Nursing Council. The school is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka. The college obtained certification by ISO 9001-2000 in the year 2006, one of the few Nursing Colleges in India to have achieved this remarkable feat.
The Nursing college building is spread in three floors with spacious well-ventilated lecture halls, seminar hall and an auditorium with a variety of teaching aids like OHP and LCD. College Provide well stocked library and different laboratories. Medical College has parent teaching hospital R.L.Jalappa Hospital and Research Center with multi specialty 1050 beded Hospital with bed occupancy 800. And well equipped Trauma Centre, ICU and scanning facilities of CT and MRI. Hospital also providing specialty coronary care services along with Narayana Hrudhalaya Heart hospital. Some of the special areas of the hospital are ICU, NICU, MICU, SICU, Dialysis unit and Radiation therapy Unit. The students are also sent to specialized hospitals for additional experience as required.

M.Sc. Nursing program is two years Postgraduate Program. Examinations are held annually. The teaching is incorporated with clinical experience in respective specialties. The students are required to submit a dissertation as a partial fulfillment of the program. Students are given an experience of organizing a workshop and conference with the support of faculty.
The specialization is done by the nurses who work in patient care units, ambulatory care units, surgical centres, emergency care units etc. The nurses of this specialization deal with the health of adult patients. The nurses of this field are to study about medicines as well, as they are to look after the medication of the patients.
This area of nursing deals with women in their age from puberty till menopause. The nurses of this field give care to women who have health issues regarding their reproductive system like during pregnancy, child labour, birth etc.
The nurses of this area work in maternity wards.
The nurses are to pursue a diploma or a degree related to women’s health and obstetrics to become OB/GYN nurses. Minimum of 2 years of experiences is needed to sit for NCC Inpatient Obstetric Nursing certification Examination and become a certified OB/GYN nurse.
The nurses trained in this area are involved in healthcare of the community. They work in rural and urban community healthcare centres. The community health nurses are responsible for the health of an entire community. To become a community health nurse, one needs to be a registered nurse by getting a degree and by sitting for the exam of National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. The nurses also need to have work experience for several years.
This area specializes in giving health care to infants and children. The nurses are given training in giving care to children or infants with health issues. To practice nursing of this area, the nurses needs to be a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree.
Also known as mental health nursing is a course where the nurses specialize in mental health and care for people who are suffering from mental illness. Nurses of this area get training in psychological therapies. A psychiatric nurse is required to be a registered nurse and specialize in mental health. This type of nurse work in mental institutes, psychiatric hospitals, mental asylums etc.
